Making
Car Comparisons Online
One of the handiest car buying tools available on the Internet is the
ability to make model comparisons quickly and easily. In the "pre-Internet" days, the process took much
longer. To compare, you needed to buy books and magazines and travel from dealer to dealer. (And each time you
visited a car dealer--even
just to make comparisons--you met a car salesperson--which often meant turning a 5 minute comparison exercise into a 2 hour "wouldya
take" and "if I could" session). For many car buyers, frustration and confusion was the result.
Times have changed! Now, from the comfort of your home or office, you can make the kinds of comparisons you need
to make an intelligent buying decison. You can proceed at your own speed, rather than being pushed into a decison.
Hints and Tips on Making Car Comparisons Online
 When
doing comparisons, make sure to include as many similar vehicles
as possible. There often is a good bit of variance in price between similar makes and models, due to availability
and demand for specific vehicles.
Take
advantage of the tools available. CarsDirect.com, for example
has several available, including side-by-side comparisons of the models you are interested in including pricing,
standard and optional equipment as well as interior capacities and even standard warranty coverages.
When
selecting options, see if there aren't option packages available
that include some or all of the options in which you are interested. Option packages are generally less expensive
than to add them individually. For example, a "convenience package" may include power windows, power
door locks and power mirrors. In addition, there are often package savings discounts that can reduce your costs
even further.
Don't
forget model "twins." Manufacturers will often make
virtually the same vehicle under different nameplates. For example, the Ford Taurus and the Mercury Sable are very
similar cars and offer many of the same standard and optional features.
